It was a perfect day in the early June, for me to stay away from Wi-Fi signal and to walk amongst the trees, during lunch break at the office. The soil was still damp from late afternoon rain of the day before, so I could find several variants of mushroom were enthusiastic to appear back on my favorite path. One of them was this unique looking mushroom.
Scaly Tangerine mushroom (Agaricus trisulphuratus / Cystoagaricus trisulphuratus), appeared from the ground, on a sloping path next to roots of big trees. It grows as tall as my pinky finger, with vibrant orange colour, contrasting with nature elements on its surrounding. This mushroom has soft spiky scales on the cap (pileus) and stipe, white gills, and ring (annulus) on its stipe. It looks similar to Pholiota flammans according to my online search, however this species usually has yellow or brownish colour, and grows on dead woods.
Scaly Tangerine mushroom likes to grow on black soils and can be found in Southeast Asia and India. It’s still difficult to find studies about this fungus, therefore it cannot be said to be safe for consumption.
Have you ever seen this mushroom in your area? If yes, let me know on the comment below.
P.S. The mycelium of the mushroom were still intact when I picked it for observation. After I photographed and observed on the spot, I returned it to its original spot, not forgetting to thank the mushroom for the knowledge it gave. When I returned to this spot, the day after, this mushroom was still thriving with the cap in full bloom.
There’s a tangerine Mushroom growing next to my home now. Never seen it before. To see pictures let me know at lzbthjkurian@gmail.com
